A functional and cozy home office becomes a must-have nowadays. People more and more often work from home and they prefer to have a dedicated work place to stay concentrated and productive. A modern home office comes in different sizes and shapes. It can be a big separate room with everything you need or a small fold-away desk in a living room. But whatever the look, the main aim is to make your space work for you.

So when designing your own office, keep in mind that functionality, practicality, and aesthetics are equally important. Check out our 8 tips for designing your home office if you want to learn more.

5. Sustainable & Organic Materials

Home decor trends in 2022 show even a bigger movement towards sustainable and organic materials (such as wood, glass, metals etc.) than ever before. One of the trends worth mentioning is celebrating glass. We will see more of glass walls and oversized pendants in 2022. So when designing your next space, keep the nature in mind and avoid plastic as much as you can.

Sustainability is trending but we shouldn’t think of it as a short-term tendency. It is a decidedly long-term approach to greener design. It is an investment in our (as well as Planet Earth’s) future. Here is what you can do and include in your home to make it more eco-friendly:

  • Create energy-efficient design that reduces the need for appliances, heating, and lighting. Use natural light to its fullest potential, select energy-saving technologies and be mindful about energy usage at home.

  • Choose eco-friendly materials, which are either recycled, reused, or from certified sustainable sources. This category is vast and includes reclaimed wood, bio-glass, recycled metal, and jute.

  • Be mindful about finishes. To minimize your ecological footprint choose paints that are tagged with “non-toxic”, “low-biocide”, or “milk” tags.

6. Minimalism Remains

Minimalism has been on our design-trends-radars for a while and it remains very popular as more and more people lean towards more simple and conscious living. Minimalist interior involves using the bare essentials to create a simple and uncluttered space. It's characterised by simplicity, clean lines, and a monochromatic palette with color and texture used as an accent.

In order to achieve a simplistic look, try to use one or two main materials for furniture, like wood or steel, pay attention to clear lines and prioritize functionality. Oh, and don’t forget to make sure there is enough storage since we strive to avoid clutter of any kind in a minimalistic home.
